Small to medium sized rooms I like the 811's.
For the large to extra large listening area the 511 works for me.
Never heard the mantaray, would like too!

I agree, and would just add that i also prefer the 811 crossed at 1200+. I think the 811's shorter acoustic path lends to slightly better VHF, but like a good trip it could all be in my mind.

Everyone seems to be all over the map on their XO points. Two crossovers from GPA are at least $200 and what if I pick the wrong one? Wouldn't it be just as cheap to go active with a cheap electronic XO and get a used Crown D75 for the HF?

This one has a sub-out also.

How does one go about recreating the mid/tweet level control for the M19, does GPA sell them along with the crossover for the 19? I just saw a few nice sets of 811B horns for the 19, one set is a $60+ and the other just at $5 and change on ebay. Both sets look in very good condition

Current ebay prices on running auctions are fairly irrelevant.

The green pair will bring in the neighborhood of 250, and the black ones about a hundred or so less.

The "completed listings" link is your friend if you want to know value/price trends.

To answer your question about the L-pads/faceplate, you either make something yourself, buy used originals, or adapt a used different model that used the same chassis/faceplate as the 19. I'd just buy a pair of used 19XO's myself.

Re: Cost to build a Brand New Model 19

Thanks bowtie I've never purchased on ebay and just signed up, so there will be a learning curve for sure lol.. I thought to maybe slowly purchase components here and there to put together a 19..

Researching the M19 has been interesting and sort of tough too.. On one hand you have many that say it was one of the best home speakers made as is and still is, and on the other hand people that want to improve it via changing the horn/dims etc.. I can totally get how a different horn or altering driver height could take it further, but unless it was documented with a how too guide I'd be lost to try and change things etc..

I've come to the conclusion that maybe I should set the goal to make mine as per the Altec design using GPA drivers and the new foam for the horn etc.. So on the used circuit I guess I'd just need the horns and the L-Pads ...
