My turn...A7 restore...

Starting to get these cleaned up. Doing some reading and trying to decide whether or not to add deadening/bracing, and what drivers to load them with.

Here's the first one before applying the Magic Mouse sander....

Looks good. Paint them Gloss Black Lacquer. I wonder how having a fiberglass shop spray the inside with a thick layer of chopped F.G, starting with pure gel coat and working to mostly fluff F.G., say 1? thick total would work out for stiffening and deadening?

Yeah, weight is a major consideration. I already have some 250+ lb wood boxes that are a PITA to move in any way.

Should be 70 degrees today. Hope to get the other box sanded, and get them both filled today. I may leave the mods alone or do minimal for now, since I've never had a chance to play with a set of these, and I can always add stuff later with less effort than removing it.....

I'd load them with 416-8B's, and 802-8G's. I'd also re-tune the cabs--they'll get a much deeper bass response if you block off part of the port on each cab IMHO.....

I found that bracing the A7 made a big difference in cleaning up unwanted cabinet radiations in the mid and upper bass areas. A stock A7 really vibrates. Check this old Sound Practices article for some things to consider -

A 515-8G and 902-8A would be my drivers of choice.

Heh, well, it somewhat depends on what I have at hand. I do have 511B horns, but I also have MR94B's and adaptors. I was thinking about going either with a pair of 902-8B's, or 802-8G's up top if I go two way, or 908-8A's with EV ST-350 "baby butt cheek" tweeters for a three way system. There's a pair of 416 -8As on the way, but I also have 515's or 515-16G HP's available, and will also complete a pair of 902-16A's this week. So many choices.....
