Nope, those ones actually still have corners. These have been ridden hard and put away wet. This second one already has a coat of grey paint courtesy of the previous owner. Too bad he didn't do anything to ther cabinets before slapping on the paint....

As I was working on these I was thinking about doing the best I could to make the horn flare as smooth as I could, and also really working on the joint mating the flare to the woofer mounting board to keep everything as smooth and uniform as possible. I figger the fewer irregularities, the smoother the sound pattern it will throw....

I know nothing about sound or air flow, but according to Smokey Yunick, the rougher the surface, the better the laminar air flow.

Wow, some of that plywood looks rough. I wonder if they're Altec built, or installer built.

they make a product called something like dynoglass which is a fiberglass reinforced bodyfiller like Bondo, but for Corvette firberglass bodies. It is much HARDER than bondo, and is what I would call the best ready made filler that would stand up to abuse.

I was told by someone more knowledgeable than me to specifically use non fiber containing filler....

I have used that fiber containing filler and can say that it is what I would use exclusively in your situation preliminarley.

Yeah it was some nice weather yesterday. I was working on mine after work yesterday for a couple of hours too.It was near 70 degrees here. Not too often do you see that at the end of Janurary in these parts.

Agreed ! It makes it so much more difficult to sand, trying to sand through paint. It constantly clogs up the sand paper, you have to sand much more harder than usual.Just adds a lot more time to the restore. You have to always, always do all filling, sanding, finishing before applying paint.Your back, arms, and fingers will Thank You ! And will just give you a much better finish for the painting in the end...

Did you consider overlaying it with a thin plywood? That would cut down the work.

The filler to use if you want something really skookum would be polyester resin, hardener and talcum powder. It's used for filling before fiberglassing. Make sure you get it close to what you want first as it's a ***** to sand.

Well, I already had some Bondo lying around, so I started filling the defects this afternoon.....
