    "Very Vintage Altec Speaker"?

Very Vintage Altec Lansing Speaker Cabinet! 8" Woofer with horn! Early Mono! | eBay
Never saw one of these before. I'm surprised at what it sold for. Anyone familiar with it?

It's a Melodist. Late fifties. Cool little speaker.

Which makes the $1150 it went for a bit of a bargain. When I sold my 755 in a beat up "wall box" it went for about $1800. I don't think the cabinet that I had was worth the difference. The 755 didn't say Altec, Though....... just the KS part number, so maybe that got all the WE collectors excited.

Dang...I have one of those and I was watching that auction, then it disappeared as no longer for sale.

I didn't see it come back up.

It actually uses a 756B, the 10" version of the 755A, so to speak. This is an 8 ohm version of the WE 756A that only appeared in that speaker as far as I know..

    I really need a second 756B.

I might even pay $1150 for another Melodist if the auction closes around the time I get my check and I don't spend all my money on crack! Altec is getting priced up beyond my social class.

Those 3000A tweeters are getting crazy expensive too.

    what the seller said,

    from the ad -

Thanks for all the offers to buy it now!
This is why I cancelled last auction and re-listed.
The high buy-it-now price will allow me to review all the offers and then make a final sales decision.
    Once again, THANK YOU!

wouldn't mind having a couple (hundred) of these myself ...

Yes I was going by 8" as the seller claimed, but if it's 10" then yes it would be a 756B..
