How were model 19's originally packaged?

I gotta wonder sitting here looking at my speakers. They are positively huge. Does anyone know if they were shipped sitting on a pallet and THEN surrounded by cardboard. Man, those had to be massive boxes!

I'm guessing they probably got packaged much the same way that a washer & dryer get packed & shipped.

Pretty Much... Wood pallets weren't feasible and added too much weight...They used a cardboard box bottom lined with 2" Styrofoam lining that the speakers sat on.Then a cardboard top that slid down into the Cardboard bottom.Surrounded by more Styrofoam (inside of box) and held together with 1/2" plastic straps.. IIRC

    Just like washing machine/dryers today....

When I purchased my Valencia's in the early 70's that's exactly how they were packaged ... cardboard box lined with styrofoam and plastic straps to make for a tight package.

Today, the packaging of goods has become really important. Because it is often necessary to order goods that can be damaged during transportation from the slightest blow. Therefore, for the transportation of goods, we use only high-quality wooden pallets. We usually order them from Kronus kronus.eu, as they have proven quality and fast delivery.

Reality check: In the USA, back in the day when Altec was shipping new model 19's, there existed quality freight carriers that handled parcels with care and competence.

The only reason shipping damage has become so commonplace is because you all(collectively) choose to tolerate it.

Yeah, they took pride in their work; in my youth we went to big rig contests to see who was the best in various categories/overall and seems like after the movie Convoy it shifted somewhat and for sure by the mid '80s the long haul locals I knew based out of the Doraville, Ga. BOP plant were so drugged up from having to make longer hauls as the old Northern plants shut down that they were crashing a lot, and not just the truck, but driving new cars off the end of the 'over the cab' ramp and forgetting to bypass the older, lower, height highway bridges.
