That is a different Font. Probably the closest he could find that is readily available. Of course Altec may have had different versions over time.
Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.

I posted the artwork for that logo a few years ago. This link will get you to a small version hosted at photobucket. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...cLineSmall.jpg I have the original autocad file somewhere so I can add the thickness to the outer lines. if need be.

Very nice, Marty. Me like! Agree, the lines could be about twice that thick. That gives us a beautiful, clean start.
AB, your decal looks good - is it self adhesive vinyl? I don't see any clear around it. Was it die cut?

(Also, can you split this off into its own Group Buy thread?)

I can furnish a clean macro photo of the Melodist decal if that would be any help in verifying the vector file.

I could use some of those decals...I have a 618 cab that could use a fresh one.altecdecal.jpg

Well.... I found most of the drawing. I shortened up the "tail" to match the pictures that have been posted. (mine was drawn over an older printed material scan) I think the line weight looks right now but you all can judge. It is easy to change so no big deal if it is wrong. I cant find the interior lettering but as I remember a slightly manipulated Arial font fit over the original well with the exception of the "s" Here is a link to a Jpeg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...Alteclogo3.jpg

With minor change to the 'C' that is very close to the original text. Copyright symbol is missing.

Interesting. They must have used some different version. See below outline from printed material overlaid on decal.

    Re: "Very Vintage Altec Speaker"?

If all else fails I could do a redraw in Illustrator If needed. Most sign shops will only accept the vector formatted type of file. I really want the water type ones though, the cut vinyl just looks too new and not really what I would put on my cabs.

Also the font has a 3D look to it in that one Geekstar posted. Or it could just be wax or crud that's making it look 3D.

    Re: "Very Vintage Altec Speaker"?

That one from the Melodist does have gold shading that creates a pseudo 3-D effect, but the one on my 618 cabs pictured below, does not. Also lacking the trademark symbol.

Shared between the two is the "small caps" look and fairly wide letter spacing.

These could be printed on an Alps opaque printer (which will do metallic ink) on water slide paper. I don't have any of this technology but it exists. If we had a proper vector file, we could probably enlist one of the ebay sellers who does such decals for models or whatnot to print some up.

Hey Geekstar, Does that look like a water slide decal to you or does it look more silk screened? I can't tell just wondering if you see any additional clear substrate or is it just the letters?
