    Altec Model 14's

I just pulled my grille off one of my speakers and noticed that the dustcap at the center of my woofer had become detached. I used a little yellow wood glue and carefully put it back on. I'll check it in the morning and give the speaker a test drive to ensure everything is OK. Is this a common occurrence on an old speaker driver like mine or am I in bigger trouble here. Any input would be most appreciated.

I've used Gorilla glue with good results. Not sure how strong yellow wood glue would be , but I would start out with low volume and gradually increase volume.

Since paper is porous wood glue should work, but I always use adhesives meant for speakers, preferably Loctite products. Subtle changes in the formula can make adhesives perform better. Prism 410 would be my choice for dust caps.

Well I fired them up this morning and applied some ample power (driving them with my Marantz 2330 receiver) and so far so good. No audible or physical adverse effects so I'll keep an eye on them and see how they hold up. I was also noticing at the time of inspection that the interior sound baffling material has come detached from the wall of the speaker and is drooping down over the sound port which couldn't be good for sonics. Any recommendations on an alternate material to use inside instead of the fibreglass batting? Thanks for the help everyone.

Any suggestions where I could order some Loctite for this specific use?

You might want to contact C.P. Moyen they make a black rubber cement that when dries weighs almost nothing.. You can also get it in small quantities from what I understand.

C.P. Moyen Co. - Company Info

    Or another alternative.

Just use some small chunks of cardboard and re-staple the batting back to the cabinet. Fiberglass is what's best for the job.

MCM are good folks, second cousin to Parts Express. Just kidding, but same folks own them.
