    Re: OT- So....how Is Everybody?

I was laying on the couch this morning trying to fall asleep and I had a thought, It was about standing waves between the cone and the basket. The newer 16" baskets looks like they figured it out by changing the angle of the spokes. But the older baskets have the spokes almost parallel to the cone? Wouldn't this cause standing waves between the cone and the basket? Also I was thinking the ends of the horns are also kinda almost parallel to the cone too. I might just for the heck of it put some makeshift foam on all of them and see if I hear is a difference.

The basket also resonates, this can be reduced by the application of a dense damping compound. High end manufacturers smear everything that's not supposed to move with damping compound.

Well this is totally embarrassing... This morning I was goofing around and reversing the HF leads to see if it was better. It wasn't so for the fun of it I thought why not try reversing the LF leads as I know for a fact that terminal 1 is the positive and the bass will be virtually non existent and they'll sound tinny and crappy. so much for assuming. The bass quadrupled the voices sound way more like normal voices and non boxy it's crazy. I don't think I ever tried reversing them.
I shot a little pink floyd so you could hear them now.

If you're passing through southern Ontario, let me know and you can make an Altec stop on your trip. I know you've been experimenting but it's also good to listen to some stock units as well.

    Re: OT- So....how Is Everybody?

I had a long time audio fan over the other day to listen to my 2 Altec systems. He is a fan of the big 3 panel maggies.... when he left he had a sad look on his face, and said "I dont think I can listen to my system ever again" I felt really bad... But was proud that I finally have dialed in my sytems..

I reversed the HF leads and removed the 3 ohm resistor from the HF side of the crossover. Not that it matters since everything was calculated using the wrong terminal as the positive.
Why didn't you guys tell me they were supposed to sound this good? Now were cookin.
