So, leg one of today's journey is complete. Amazing what you can fit in the back of a Honda Element. I might keep them as my new car stereo speakers.

They came with a bonus. The guy had the 515Bs that came from these cabs. One might need a recone, we'll see. $162 for the cabs, $400 for the 515Bs.

Off to PA to get the A6s...

I already am. I've been housecleaning to Lowell George all morning. I never knew dusting could be so much fun!

These 3156s really punch. Especially 4 of them! I'll have some time to play with porting options by the time I get the A7s sanded and painted. They're solid, just really scratched up. These 8256s are about the same size except depth. I vote if you have the room, get some.

And the 288s are spectacular. It's not that they are better...or more...the sound stage is just bigger, a lot bigger. The Mantarays seem a bit less directional that the 811s as well.

Now I have to try and fit the Heathkits in the bedroom.

I'm going to assume you are single.
I like the later Altec stuff. Would love to have some of those to play with. The cool thing about the later stuff is that the old school guys wouldn't hardly consider it. look at what you got for $800.

BTW, anyone have any details on this N1285-8B crossover that's on the 8256s. I've searched and come up blank. I see lots of links to an altecpro.com site, but my page always comes up blank whenever I try any of them.

Single indeed. (And I got 'em for $750, but who's counting .) I'm so single I could stack the A6s on top of the 828s.

Actually a pretty neat x-over for experimenting with the 3 popular frequencies.
