Awesome work! I like the idea of not painting them! If they were mine I would just put some poly on them. In time it would turn an orangish honey color and match those labels nicely.
Looks great. How did you figure-out and cut the lower cleats for the horn mouth?

getting closer. the stain is a pain but worth it. i still have to paint the horn sides. install them, and finally install the speakers.
I also need to install recessed grab handles. to make it easier to move and give them at least a little air of legitimacy.
i'm still not through with the bottom panels. i'm going to try the round 50 square" tube port like gm suggested first. ultimately i'm going to make new ones that fit right. since I screwed the edges up anyhow. I may even experiment with another bulkhead 11" below the bottom horn side, extending from the back panel to within 11" of the front panel. maybe,,,, .

I used to get homesick. Now I'm getting stereosick. Been gone for over a
week and I can't wait to get back and finish the a7s. I tried them out with the barest systems and there is nowhere to go but up. One of the first things I want to hear is some good old black sabbeth or van halen.

I find that Deep Purple "Lazy" can take me to another place and time on the A7's. Actually, the whole Machine Head album plays well on them. My neighbors used to tell me how awesome that band practicing in my basement was "they sound just like Deep Purple" i was told more than once. One of the first things I want to hear is some good old black sabbeth or van halen.

Nice work Phil!
So much excellent music to play through those...

well i took two weeks off. but back to work here. i finished the horn flange panels. and now i'm waiting for the grab handles to come in before i install the panels. today i screwed around with some kind of grill for these speakers. i'm not sure if they will work out ok. i thought about a full front cover but i really hate to hide the work i did finishing the inside of the horn. so this is what i came up with. bear in mind this is a first run proto, and i have plenty more material to get it right.
i tried to keep it as simple as i can. and i figure the 3/8 dowel will present a minimal obstruction to the wave front. but i'm not so sure how the fabric affect the sound yet. it is mostly low freq so im hoping not much
