That's what makes it a bad design from a performance POV. If, however, you considered them art (as the seller wisely eludes), and your budget for such things extended beyond a 4x6 black velvet "Dogs Playing Poker", (I'll have one before I die), or life-size, video store movie star cutouts (what I have now), you might be able to convince the better half to forego those Ming vases she's been pining for.

Surely someone here would accept that offer if we knew about where in the "USA" you are. For myself, it would have to be really close, considering my reluctance/inability to support the oil barons.

they are pretty...
but i could never do it...
there's a tube/old radio guy by me that builds modified Hedlund Horns... basically he enlarges the chamber the driver is mounted to, and adds a wooden piece that can be used to adjust the volume of the transition into the horn from the chamber, he says it allows to variable tuning for any driver...
i've stopped in a few times to hear them, and while they do sound pretty good for being 8" full-rangers...
i can't get over that tiny driver hopping all over the place...
and the fact that he wants 15K for them... but i guess i do live in the townhomes down the street from the polo reserve (for horses & playing polo) here in town....

Indy...
Too bad I didn't build these when I was in Tyler Texas...that sounds close enough even for one of those weirdos from Arkansas. Little Rock is cool...but son of a gun...talk about another world.
I'm completely stung by the "insert audiophile verbosity here" of this 100% horn system. My dad had ev-t350s, altec horns, tannoy and jbl woofers...McIntosh and Tannoy amps and horn loaded sub woofers....and to think that all that s_h_i_t_t_i_n around with planars led me back to the beginning. The engineering info offered up for free on this forum by all of you is on par with the best engineering companies I've worked for...bizarre this internet...though you must actually listen and discern to learn. Thank you all...you've kept me focused and humbled throughout.

I'll buy a pair if you can make them for two K and I'll cover the shipping and I'll supply the drivers myself. I don't think they're worth what he's asking but I don't think you could build them as a business for 2K. The amount of work involved would be way over the top and the finishing alone would take weeks. Totally un-economical. If a person wants to market a new Altec based design, wouldn't it be better to offer help rather to throw slag at the guy? We're supposed to be the Altec helpful group here not the throw a pile of **** at anyone who does something new group.
Just my opinion and I'm open to correction if my interpretation is wrong.

Can anyone tell me where sound below 80 Hz is coming from? Not a sarcastic question, I'm wondering.

I don't think the price is out of line.
If the engineering is right...it must sound fantastic. Even though you COULD put something together for less by getting old cabs and restoring drivers...this guy is offering to the free market the altec tradition and some unique artsy "finished" pieces. I wish the seller well. He is...after all...paying homage to Altec.
