I hope this is the appropriate place for this.

Would anyone know of a replacement (or original unit) for the input transformer that came in the Ampex 351 microphone preamp? It is my understanding that the transformer was an Altec/Peerless. I am trying to locate one and the only information I have is the Ampex number (13771) and the turns ratio (1:15).

FWIW, I called Jensen and though they do make a replacement for it, it is not exactly to specifications (i.e., turns ratio of 1:10)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

If I remember correctly the best input transformers were the UTC A11,followed by the peerless followed by the Ampex. The jensen unit is good as is the red octal Altec/peerless plug in 151095??. Check under Ampex, transformers and vintage electronics in E bay. As you know these were great sounding tube mic pre because of their tube circuits.

I have a stereo pair of Ampex mike pre-amps/mixers
    for sale. Interested?
I also have Ampex tube tape decks that should have
    transformers.

I had to do some digging under junk to get to this
stuff, but the tape decks are AMPEX PR-10 and have
XLR balanced inputs which may be line-level only.

The AMPEX mixers are in a road case and I can't see
a model # but I'll take them out & look - they are
4-input with large black knobs ( the Master knob is
red) They are 19" wide rack-mount by about 6" high.

    Ampex mic-preamps/mixers are model MX-10s ( single-
ended all-tube design with mic transformers)

Ampex RP-10 tape decks have octal sockets for
optional mic preamp modules that featured NUVISTOR
tubes ! Unfortunatly my decks don't have the mic
    module options installed. forums
