Mine measured 7/8. But the driver had no back cover or label, just a loading cap. The 902's in my 9842 monitors were the same, no back cover or label, just a loading cap over the diaphragm. My WAG is that at higher XO(1.6khz and above) the back chamber volume provided by the full size cover is unnecessary, and that was a logical place for Altec to cut costs. Just my WAG though. Is the MR902 horn 7/8? It has the 902-16A on the back yes?
EDIT: 902-8B is in the '84 catalog which clearly states 900 series drivers have a 7/8 opening................ if you want to trust Altec's printed literature. http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...pro/page05.jpg
It's never made any sense to me that they would have changed dimensions of the motor assembly and still called it a 902. I have to follow judge judy's logic. If it doesn't make sense, it's probably not true.
Then of course you have this catalog page that says they're all 1 inch. http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...pro/page13.jpg
Trust your ruler.
2nd EDIT: Note that in the list of selling points under the 909 in the '90 catalog the claim is made that it's "Altec's best small format driver!"
