    Altec 416A/515B 16" frame options

I have a single 416a and 515b woofer. They are both the later versions with 16" frames. Most of that model I see on ebay have the the 15" frame (except the 515c which I believe is identical to my 515b). I also have a pair of 421 woofers with 16" frames. My question is will the AlNiCo magnet/motor assembly on either the 416 or 515 bolt up to the 16" 421 frame?

I am having a hard time finding another single to match up to one of my woofers. It might be easier to find one with a 15" frame and swap the magnet over

Btw- the plan is after I get a matching pair I will send them to GPA for a recone and remag

There are a pair of 422z frames I can get for a decent price. Any idea if the magnet is the same as the 416a? It looks like it is but you never know

I go down to Orlando or Melbourne from time to time. I would rather drive to pickup gear instead of risking damage in shipping

The 422 is 418 based. my spec sheets seem to show magnet is same weight as 416.

Yeah the Gpa spec sheet shows the 416a with a 2.4 lbs magnet at 12,000 guass. The 418b is the same 2.4 lbs magnet but with 13,000 guass.

I am wondering what the difference in sound is between the two, assuming both are reconed with a 416 cone and remagged at GPA

I talked with Bill at GPA. He said all of the MI woofers have a different top plate than the 416. Except the 420, it is exactly the same motor structure. He did say that the others will work very well, but they are not exactly the same. Good info to know
