So if you swap the speakers around does it follow the speaker or stay on the same channel...
swapped cables, crossovers, channels...
The distortion is most noticeable of soft passages and the attack of the notes.
The issue follows the driver.
I will have time to open it up this evening.
Pulled the driver apart to find a hair /bristle caught between the back cap and the diaphragm. Then, cleaned the gap out with a business card...
Distortion gone.
Separate note, i've been shaping horns and crossovers on this pair with some pretty amazing results. Stay tuned.
Hmm, doesn't say much for GPA............
BTW, in general, these drivers tend to perform better overall if the loading cap isn't used, with a lower peak power capability as the trade-off; may have to add a felt pad in the rear cover.

Wider LF bandwidth [BW] with no hump in the response, i.e. a lower Qt system. You can see here with the 604 and it's worse with a larger horn's acoustic loading: Altec Compression Driver Rear Loading Caps
