    VolvoHeretic,

Thanks for the explanation and drawings. This is amazing.

I have heard about many ways to treat your listening area to get rid of reflections and deaden the area. I have never heard anyone talk about how harmonics and nulls/peaks influence things. It absolutely makes sense. I can hear this by walking around my listening area (which is also my shop, I am not always working in the same spot).

Its just interesting how much more there to what you hear than the preamp/amp/speakers.

This is insane information. Volveheretic, could you please explain a little easier to understand.

Thanks! We only want room mode peaks, so only odd harmonics shown please. The speakers will be ~at the sound wall [fundamental/1st harmonic], so ideally we want to listen from a peak, or at least that's going to give us the best overall room response of the lower half of the power spectrum in the horizontal plane.
Greg, please help understand this and why only odd harmonics ?

If you have the time, take a look at the vids from RMAF on room acoustics too.

Depends on the forum and the audio components manufacturer. In a consumer audio room, small room acoustics apply, so its modes are the dominate factor of how the lower frequencies perform, especially if a truncated, [mid] bass horn, which if you know the room mode distribution, one can design in the horn's response 'ripple' to blend well enough to create a surprisingly flat in-room response as if it was a full size horn [assuming the room's construction is as rigid/massive].

Thanks for the videos and to fill in any blanks, pictorials, I assume these links will keep folks busy for awhile because I don't have time to explain all this stuff in detail: https://www.google.com/search?q=room+modes+explained&rlz=1C1AVNG_enUS675U S675&oq=room+mode&aqs=chrome.5.0j69i57j0l4.8975j0j 7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Interesting videos. I liked the explanation in the first one. The whole waves in a bathtub thing makes sense

Here are a few interesting videos on standing waves and harmonics.

    Hi VolvoHeretic,

Is it possible for you to draw 22.5/67.5 degree diagram, appreciate your help.

    Thank you,
    Sri

I'd love to Sri, I should have it whipped out around midnight, first I have to open the doors and play scary Halloween music at 110db and lure those little kids in for candy.

Gees, I'm so far 'out of the loop' that I'd forgotten it's Halloween, what with all the kids now going to the local mall to TorT, party, so quiet as a morgue in my 'hood.
