    Bad woofer

So I have these jbl d130's I put new dust caps on to replace the dented ones. So when one speaker wasn't working I found the problem was a wire broke off by the cap. But GM's comment about a bad cap wouldn't make both drivers not work was still ringing in my head. So today I finished painting and polying and figured for the hell of it I'd test the woofers. One has no reading. Damn!!!
It must be something not connected or blown. This looks brand new the wiring I can see looks fine . Problem is aside from cutting off dust caps I've never been inside a woofer. Anyone got any links or help. I'm going to start cutting out the dust cap and surround foam. Because I see no other way inside this thing. Any help would be appreciated

When you cut off the dustcap you made sure not to cut the wire where it goes through the cone to the Vc right? I only ask because the cut looks pretty close to the cone.

I would try to use a needle probe and get a reading from the wires right before they go in the VC

I don't think I did they are pretty heavily coated in that black glue. But that area was incredibly hard to get through to get the dented dust cap off.
I guess it's another $100 and just cut it all out and get a recone kit.

Yeah, no reading it's either a disconnected wire or blown VC. Considering the cost/hassle of a recone, checking wires by using a piece of scrap and/or replacing the leads to make sure it's the VC would be my choice.

    Re: Bad woofer

Thanks by the 2nd time I cut out the dust cap I'm sure I hit something if I didn't do it the first time. So I just cut the hell out of it. Lol. And ordered a recone kit. $100 is a hard lesson, but I always wanted to learn to do this . Now I have 4 different kind of glue too.

New diaphragms, caps, inductors, woofer rebuild, can't be anything else can go wrong now. Lmao!!!

    Re: Bad woofer

I would recone both woofers. If you don't you will probably notice a difference in performance between the original woofer and the reconed woofer.
