Very cool. I like how they show the A1 in unpainted plywood. Could you get cabs that way from the factory? I was under the assumption that the theatre cabs came painted gray.
Anyways, cool seeing the old color catalogs

This is some wonderful stuff! The printed catalog is near its end, and this site offers us the opportunity to experience this age-old method of shopping and dreaming. I guess you could call the old catalogs internet shopping before the advent of the internet. Thanks for referencing this very interesting site, mah!

Awesome stuff mah, thanks for posting!
The early paint was very thin, more like a stain. You can see the grain thru it pretty clearly, and i think that's what they're illustrating. Or, maybe we're looking at two different thingsI like how they show the A1 in unpainted plywood. Could you get cabs that way from the factory?

this is great stuff I'll bet buying an A1X then would have cost somewhere around what a Studebaker Eagle cost.

Re the finish: 1945 - the war has probably ended. How long would it take for the Navy to get excess stocks of 'battleship gray' paint to surplus dealers? I would say, not quickly.

Thanks for the links! I need to find my copy of the in house RCA critique of these Altecs.
FWIW, the 1945 catalog has been here for many years along with some other literature: New Page 1

It's just a rendering and doubt they'd ever do a 'fine finish' on any of these unless someone wanted it for a high profile PA app such as a political convention.

Since Altec was involved in the war effort, seems like they'd have their own supplies.

Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.
GM , If you can't find your copy, Ill scan and post the original RCA document. You really can't tell from the literature that the 310 cabinet is another foot taller and seven inchs deeper than the 210.(In addition to being wider.) I suspect that the short narrow horn flair on the Ipc cabinets made in Canada is the start of the 310 horn, which expands to the 5' horn of the 210.
