Would 1/4" plywood work as well or would the 1/2" that you mentioned be better, maybe help with overall damping? Even thou they have extra bracing inside you can tap on the side and the sound resonates a lot. I have read different views on damping the 825, some say leave it alone, others say eliminate all resonance. Guess I will have to experiment once I get them up and runnin..

P.S. In order to be able to bring them in the house I Will have to mount the 811B/806A inside (which is where it was originally) Guess i wont be able to fine tune the cabinet for better bass response since the horn will be in the way of any porting.
here is a pic of the mounting bracket.

As stiff as BB ply is, the original in pristine shape is cheap crate making grade at best if made after the mid-60s, hence the 1/2" and personally would use 3/4" since these cabs need a lot of bracing and mass as partly proven by Jeff Medwin/'low ohms':

Adding MASS to an A-7 825 enclosure

    Another adding mass related thread:

Mass Loading A7s, VERY inexpensive, reversible, needed -

Re leaving stock, this is fine for prosound, but in a typical HIFI/HT app where the listening distance is only fractionally as long plus in a resonant, acoustically small room?

Not my idea of 'HIFI', but to each their own.

Well, you can extend the sides, back to make a separate horn cab on top or you can tune the vent with a little extra effort by adding a full width baffle in lieu of the stock 'L' bkt. with a shelf to close the bottom off, tuning the gaps on either side of the horn with tubes, then doing a bit of reflections damping that does double duty covering them up if no grills.

You could laminate them in formica, wilsonart, or nevermar. Have the wife pick out the color. Once your eyes are closed you w'ont see the color but see the sound!!!
