    299's on FeePay

Seller has a pair. Sent me an offer for $600, so they will go at least that low. Doesn't strike me as an outrageous price.

The ferrite magneted 288/299 's are really great drivers.

    I truly love my 288-8K's ( used on Emilar EH500 radial horns with a 1.4"-2" adapter ).

That quoted price on eBay is in give-away territory ( IMHO ).

On that Emilar horn they're remarkably linear ( helping make crossover design simplistic > one only needs a 2-pole high-pass ).

    Here's a recent trace ( it was so flat that at first I thought my measurement hadn't applied the mic calibration file > but it actually was applied ) ;
    - For comparison, I've included a measurement of an 802-8T on an H290B BiRadial done at the same measuring session > same position.
    - This is another good looking curve.

Worth noting is that the 10K notch very likely doesn't actually exist.
    - ( It appeared in 5 traces representing 5 horn/driver combos made up from 3 different drivers and 3 different horns >> and the notch was always present >> therefore I believe it's a measurement anomaly///reflection )

( Click the pic to supersize ! )

    Someone should grab those drivers.

Aren't the 291 drivers the same motor? Just install new diaphragms? I have a set that I installed the symbiotic diaphragms and they sound great.

The 291K ( Ferrite magnet ) is the same motor for sure as a 288K.

Yes, with the installation of 288 diaphragms they become 288-8K ( or 288-16K's ) .

There was a 291B ( alnico ) that would become a 288G with the installation of a 288 type diaphragm.

Realistically, if your 291's weigh about 30lbs then you are good to go.

    Re: 299's on FeePay

Thanks Earl, I was pretty sure of that. I purchased the Symbiotic diaphragms from a member here after being told they were the same motor. And yes, I call them bowling balls. 30Lbs is about right.
I just wanted to bring this up in this post as often the 291 drivers can be found a lot cheaper. I always just assume when buying used drivers that the diaphragms will need replacing anyway. I picked these up about 3 years or so ago for $100.00 for the set. Another $100.00 for the used diaphragms and I was set.
