Hmm, I don't hate them, just based on its specs, FR, it's really only good for ~ 4 octaves, so ~300 Hz XO, tops if they were mine, i.e. only good for the mid-bass whereas the mids goes to 2 kHz and IME this is true of many of them due to the cone design. The 2225 OTOH is very wide range and can stand more compression loading than any of the Altecs I've used.

Depends on the room size/acoustics, listening distance [Lp] and whether or not they need to blend to other channels. Note that in planning a room, the speakers, LP normally work best overall at a room odd harmonic.
