    Albert:

Try the McBean horn Analysis site via your explorer. There are others under Horn Calculator program headings.

Yes the throat configuration can be critical but actually not that hard to go from round to square. Just extend the lines of the square horn corners into the round throat and file/rasp
    a smooth transition.

Round Horns are most easily made with a lathe or computarized routing equipment.

    Some horn information:

Interestingly most observers do not hear a quality difference between similar size square and round tractrix horns. But square horns have the advantage of better HF coverage/less beaming!!

Also a slightly longer than standard tractrix flare rate gives fuller response closer to mouth cutoff without losing sound quality. This flare rate resembles an exponential but with tractrix like flared lips to prevent mouth distortions.

Hyper/exponential is better than tractrix flare in bass freq since cut off will be actual horn cut off whereas tractrix flare always causes a higher than calculated cut off.

The best drivers for horns remain compression drivers they are more dynamic and clear than cone speakers adapted to horns. Reason being cone drivers have too much mass compared to comp driver diaphragms.

So square those horns (again) modified exponential is good and stay with comp drivers.
