    I have a 416A speaker that I got from my church. I don't know much about it except it is a 16 ohm 15" speaker. I made a ported cabinet for it to use for bass guitar. I just guessed on the dimensions because I had no specifications. What are the specs on this speaker? What kind of box would I put it in to use as a subwoofer? thanks

    I would not recommend it for using with bass guitar. If you want ALTEC a 421 would be more suited for that purpose.

    Hi Combat,

    What size cabinet did you make? And the port, how big is it?

    I did some calculations for you based on the size of the cabinet you built. The best speaker for your cabinet would be the Altec 421-8H. Other choices for your cabinet would be an EVM-15B and the JBL 2205 or E140. All these have parameters that appear to work best in a ported box of just a bit under 4 cubic feet.

    I think the 416 should be in a box nearly 10 cubic foot in size. The T/S parameters of the 416 that I used were Fs of 24 hz Qts of .25 and Vas of 22.7 Cu. Ft.

    Was that the 416A? because those specs are nearly identical to the 416 8C. How much difference is there between the 416s? thanks

    Yes it might not be best suited for bass guitar, but I got it for free. What is it designed for? How much is it worth? I have it in a 19"x21"x16" (interior) box so 3.7 cubic ft It has two 3"x4" vents. Does anyone have specifications for this speaker?

    The T/S list I got from the unofficial Altec website doesn't have a 416 with an A suffix. You are correct to note that the specs I used were 416-8C. Maybe someone else can help find the exact specs. I suspect they are not different from the 416-8C.

    If you have an exact set of specs for the 416A and they differ a lot from the 416-8C you can calculate the size yourself. The optimum vented box volume is equal to 15 times the Vas parameter times the Qts parameter raised to the 2.87 power.

    V=15*Vas*(Qts)^2.87

    I sent you an email regarding this but am not sure if you got it. I have a 421 I would swap for the 416. Although the 416 if in good shape is probably worth $25 to $50 more, the 421 would be much more desirable in that application.
