Saw a data sheet that said the 417-8C is rated 75 Watts and the 417-8H is 100 Watts. Says the weight of the two speakers is the same -- so, same magnet? Must be different cone/voice coil? Friend in the speaker business says yes and that re-coning the 8C with the higher rated cone yields a speaker capable of handling 100 Watts. Said it doesn't matter 'cause the 8C won't burn up being driven by my 100 Watt guitar amp anyway. What's your opinion? Thanks. -- Johnny

Reconing with a heavier coil is probably a solution, but call Bill at GPA to see what your options are. Sort of depends on what parts are still available. I would think most people would step up in power rating for non-hifi applications.
