    Lynn,

This sounds like a real good idea! I doubt that anyone will have a set of plans for a fiberglass horn, but I would love to copy this medium sized CD Mantaray horn. I copied a 500 Hz radial horn (K-horn type) in plywood and it sounded great. I guess I will have to buy a real Altec horn and than mold a copy from it. With the flat surfaces, I don't think it would be all that hard to copy. And, NO I am not kidding!

    Cool

    Hello Lynn,
You have a couple of options to get some MR11 594 horns. I have seen them on the ebay from time to time at resonable prices.
The other option is to have some made. Some time ago, when the factory closed, I had a precision fiberglass company make moulds for the MR11 564, MR11 594 & MR11 5124 horns so that I can keep using them.
Each mould cost $600.00AU and now each horn costs $250.00AU to have made. Please call if you need any more details. Muray.

What about using the horn in the link below and continuing the flare to lower the horn cutoff to where you want it?

    Lynn,

You probably don't want to use that drawing - it is for the MR931-12, which won't give you proper loading if you just, as you state, extend the thing on out.

Besides - the coverage pattern on the MR931-12 is ASYMMETRICAL, and you probably need one that is symmetrical.

These horns may be available again in the U.S. soon. If you're in a hurry, get them from Murray.

Making them yourself IS possible, but the throat geometry is very important, and can be difficult if you're trying to make one out of, say, wood.

I agree with Todd, the 931 is not a good example to start with.
It is not advisable to 'extend' horns as the design would be altered a lot for a lower frequency.
I us 594s and they are excellent horns, heaps better than the JBL offering of that era. There are 2 versions, one is heavy fibreglass and rounder in the flare. The other a thinner plastic material and slightly smaller mounting flange. The fibreglass ones are superior.

    Lynn:

Agree with Charlie they often appear at Ebay inexpensively and are too much work to make from scratch. Check with International Cinema in Miami
the owner's name is Steve. They have just about everything you may need in Altec reasonably priced.
