Other than checking Ebay (I do)is there good
source for drivers? I know what GPA does so
I suppose I could have my mystery 416 rebuilt
to match my factory labeled 416-8B. Does any-
one have an orphan 416-8B for sale? I guess I
need to satisfy my "aannul retentive" desire
    for all things to match!
    Thank You
    Dave

An interesting thing about buying 1 woofer from Ebay. It could work fine, and still be bad.
    Let me explain.
In 1978, I bought a pair of A7X VOTT's brand new. They had the 416-8B woofers in them along with the 802-8G's. Years of abuse later, one of the woofers started rubbing at the voice coil. So I had it re-coned with real Altec parts.....back when it was done under warranty.....no matter how old.....no questions asked. Last year, I finally retired the A7's in favor of the Duplexs I listen to now. Since I was designing enclosures, and since I learned how to measure the T/S parameters of the duplexes and of the 411's, I measured the 416-8B's while I was at it. Lo and behold, one was WAY out of spec! Not even close....and it was the remianing original driver......not the one I had re-coned. It "worked" fine, but because it was so far off from it's design T/S parameters, it was never tuned properly to the A7 cabinet. The re-coned unit BTW was right on design specs.
So, sorry to ramble on and on....but you could get screwed buying one on ebay w/o knowing if it is in spec. As others have found out here, be ware!
