Do a search on The Carmels and 9844 speakers.

Used the 414's in those and were one of Altecs better speakers in MHO.

414's were used in both home hi-fi (Carmels) and Altec professional lines, namely the studio monitor 9844.

The 414 was one of the most linear, best-sounding woofers Altec ever built. Both versions - the Alnico & the ceramic, are EXCELLENT woofers!

They work good in studio and small sound reinforcement environments, as long as you use them in pairs (2, 4, etc.) - they can't quite keep up by themselves, but together, they're GREAT!

They are NICE in the less-harsh home environment!

I know where some NEW production speakers of this type will soon be available! forums
