    OT Vinyl outsells cd's

Vinyl record sales outperformed CDs in the US for the first time since 1987, according to a new report.

Just over 41 million vinyl records were sold in 2022, to the tune of $1.2bn (£.99bn). Only 33 million CDs were sold, amounting to $483m.

It was the 16th consecutive year of growth for record sales, about 71% of physical format revenues.

I was curious how that compares in the ether, and what a quick search might reveal.

Music streaming revenue for 2022 was just under $17 billion, estimated to be $36 billion by 2026.

It's hard to beat the instant gratification streaming offers. Just glad to see vinyl on the rise.

I simply haven’t researched streaming. Not only how to find it, but how to get it into my DAC, or into my system. Not sure I want a PC in my stereo.
Ive heard however that hi-res streaming sounds very good.

I still have all my old albums.

Still a CD fan though. Actually have bought a few lately. Used on Amazon. Cheap! And the condition was like new.

I have to admit streaming from the toslink of my tv into my stereo system is really enjoyable.

I’m also a CD fan. Used CDs are pretty cheap, and they sound good. I have a bunch of records but never listen to them. I don’t even have a TT setup in my system right now.

We don’t have access to high speed internet where we live. So hi res streaming isn’t an option.

It’s interesting to see what the top streamed songs are. Total shite. I’m only 38 and like some newer music, but the top songs are terrible.

I use a media server from Antipodes Audio here in NZ. Looks just like a CD player with no display or buttons. Has a CD ripper built in, and automatically rips to FLAC and downloads album art via ethernet connection to the router. Plays thru a DAC to my tube pre and amps.

The ripped CDs sound better than my CD player + same DAC does.

I use Roon as a remote control via my phone or PC. I use Tidal as a FLAC file streaming service on the Antipodes unit that sounds great. They have a lot of good remasters

The sound is as good but different to my vinyl setup. Some albums are better on vinyl and some better in digital. It depends on mastering, pressing.
