    604s in a Large room

I built these 10 years ago, and have been happily running them ever since with a 10w single ended tube amp in a medium sized carpeted living room (~15’ x 18’) with a pair of bucket subs powered by a Crown 1502.

    Yet again, another 604 MLTL...

However, it is looking like we will be inheriting the MIL’s “granny flat” that was built on to our house just after I built these. It has an open plan living/dining/kitchen that is about 8 x 15 METERS, 10’ ceilings, and wood floors on a concrete slab. Lots of windows too, so the space will be challenging to tame.

I am wondering how the big 604 boxes will fare in this large of space, as I have never heard much about running a set in this large a space?

I have always been interested in A5s, so am also considering putting a set of 416s or 515s in this cab and hunting down some 1005s to put on top (I wish I would gotten the tar filled ones I bought from Altec Best). I know that these would fill the space with sound…

I know what folks here will likely tell me to do... :-)

    BTW- the boxes are
    • H = 42.5" internal
    • CSA = 422.04"^2
    • vent = 6" diameter x 2"
    • Driver center point down 19.625" from top interior.

Ended up with no stuffing internally and a 3 ohm R on the woofer.

Wow 8x15 meters? That’s about 26x50’ if my math is correct.

What flavor 604 do you have? I don’t think they’ll have an issue filling the space, but you might need more than 10 watts. I would give them more power.

It also depends on how loud you listen. I push my 604G’s pretty hard. I power them with a 250wpc amp.

But a pair of A5/A7’s and a couple 18” subs would sound good also

    GPA 8H-III

I can listen loud. I have some 45 monoblocs I will probably sell (also have a nice 2A3 and my big GM70 monos) and might look to get a nice PP amp. I just love the SET sound.

A pair of these might be in the offing, since my wife is pretty much banning the buckets (they do kick ass, though - and the price was right).
