Hello ALTEC HostBoard friends, my name is John and i am from The Netherlands and
already not sleeping well for over a week, because NO sound is coming from the
MF+HF Horn of my ALEC Model 19! The speakers are in their original factory shipping state.
I started a new thread, because there wasn't a thread which could help me.
A very long time i did not use my Altec Model 19's, which i bought in 1980.
Few weeks ago i bought a second hand Yamaha AX-592 amplifier and connected
it with the Model 19 speakers, but NO sound is coming from the Horns.
I read about the degradation of the komponents over a long time, so i replaced
the resistors + capacitors of one of the cross-overs and connected it to the
amplifier again, but still no sound from the horn.
I changed the resistors + capacitors with the original values as stated on
the cross-over schema of N1201-8A, albeit a little better quality.
The coils don't look very good to me on the outside, but there resistence
value seems reasonable.
The 2 L-pads 8 Ohm + 35 Ohm are still working good it looks like.
Please keep in mind that i did not study Electronics, but i can measure
everything with my multimeter, but e.g. i don't know when i measure the
driver of the horn what value (in Ohm) i should get!
Question: what is the best procedure i should follow to determine what
is the matter with the ALTEC Model 19 Horns?
Should i start with the amplifier once again? It played well with other speakers.
Should i start measuring voltages, beginning with the output of the amplifier?
But what voltages should i get on the LF-output and MF+HF output on the
cross-over? I did check 3-4 times if i maybe made a soldering error, but it
looks like that's not the case.
Could somebody with more knowledge about this matter than i, advice me how
to take the best steps to determine what is going on with the horns?
I would like to thank you very much for your time in guiding me through
this proces.
Have a nice day ALTEC HostBoard friends and greetings from The Netherlands.
John
NB. Why are so many words underlined with a red line, am i doing something wrong?
Question: should i make longer sentences?
I was not able to upload an image or an attachment, because it says i am a visitor, but i just logged in.

You could make a post thanking Phil-G for the suggestion. Of course, another post to thank me for suggesting to thank him. Heck, you are already half way there.....
@John_AM19
Remove a single horn ( iow; the 811b ) along with it's driver ( immediately snap a pic with your phone, of the wires connected to the 802-8G driver before disconnecting the wires ).
With the wires removed, measure the DCR ( dc resistance ) of the 802G driver using your multimeter set to measure resistance .
The driver will normally measure @ 6.5 ohms ( +/- .5R ) if it's healthy.
