It would be nice to find a pair of the sebergs they came in.
I have 4 414 16s with the heavy frames. im hoping to build a pair of Carmels. Maybe with 931-12s instead of 811Bs

These didn't come in Seeburgs. The Seeburgs had Utah woofers. The DDS1 had two Utah 15's and an 811 with an 806. The DDS2 had a single 12, same horn.

Well that killed my Seeburg image. Honestly i never looked past the 811 horn. I just assumed that the rest of the drivers were Altec also.
I'd say bean counters in action. The only reason they sprung for the horn was because of the "coolness" factor.

It may be more than coincidence that they used a mixture of Altec and Utah components.

Altec had a working relationship with Utah going back into the 1940's. The field coil 601 duplex was built on a stamped Utah frame. Early 412 bi-flex, and 600B's were built on 12 inch Utah stamped frames.

Utah made a few decent speakers before they became Pyle

Gold spray paint. Suddenly you have rare drivers. You could advertise on eBay as “Minty”.
