Question

As they don't make a 45 amp breaker... Are you allowed to put a 50amp 2pole breaker ahead of an #8\3 sub-feed? [small kitchen panel w\ no range]

Cool

"They" make a 45A breaker, and as such you are not allowed to use a 50A. Everything on Table 13 is available in the form of breaker or fuse. However I have never personally seen a 45A breaker.

typically we don't see 45 amp breaker but in fuse once a while but that is related to specality item and it will cost a bundle for it. so i rather stay with stanrad breaker both 40 or 50 amp verison but you state the wire size is #8,, ok in usa it is generally procted by 40 amp breaker unless part of hvac system the codes will get diffrent with this one. i am sure the cananda codes are simuair with NEC ( usa) with wire capaicty size wise

so please check your codes to make sure it is correct overcurrent device for your area

( i try to keep NEC and Cananda codes separtated here )

merci, marc

In regards to a sub-feed for your small kitchen panel, Table 13 cannot be exceeded for any reason.
Checks out Rule 14-104.Also make sure to check "Appendix B" for rule 14-104.
