When I make my chili, I always add a bit of chocolate to help cut the burn. I use about a 1/3 of a hersey bar (no almonds), I learned that when I lived in Texas.
If you don't have a chocolate bar about a tbl spoon of brown sugar works well.

The chocolate (or brown sugar) doesn't add sweetness it takes part of the burn away leaving the spicy flavors.
When I make my chili, i usually make about a 1/2 gallon pot, so if you try adding a bit o sweet, kinda do it to taste.
