addiction...

what is your thoughts on being addicted to drugs and or alcohol...

is it a disease or do some people just use the excuse that its a disease to continue drinking or taking drugs??

I think a lot of things are used as an excuse. I think it depends on genetics to some extent sometimes and then other times it is just that the person like the way it makes them feel so they refuse to get help to quit because they don't want to quit. Usually I think a lot of it depends on the situation the person who is an addict is in.

I think its one or the other generally. Some people are very weak in mind/spirit and get drawn into abusing drugs...still others are clinically prone to be addicts based on genetics and environment. either way I also believe it can be fixed with work.

well my reason for askin this was my best friend is addicted to drugs and she's an alcoholic...but good news...she went into rehab today a 5 day program...BY her choice...*PROUD smiles*

Well as far as perscribed drugs go, You can develope an addiction to that certain perscrption. But you have to constantly be on that perscripition for some time to develope an addiction. Just like quiting smoking, The person has to be willing to seek help or want to quit. Other wise it's just a lost cause.
