Elmer E. Smith

1915-2008

Funeral services for Elmer E. Smith of Amity will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in the chapel at Macy & Son Funeral Directors. The Rev. Margaret Golden will officiate.

Interment will be conducted at the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in McMinnville.

Mr. Smith died at the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. He was 92.

Born in Amity on March 12, 1915, he was the son of Thomas A. and Anna A. (Wirsen) Smith.

He served in a Navy Seabees unit during World War II in Hawaii and Iwo Jima. After the war, he returned to Amity to farm and log.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading newspapers and doing carpentry work around his home. "He was a very good-hearted and generous man," the family said.

Mr. Smith is survived by seven nephews, Tom of Amity, Rodney of McMinnville, Alan of Lincoln City, Kerry and Bryan of Eugene, Randy of Oregon City and Kevin of Choctaw, Okla., and four nieces, Sharon Smith of Monmouth, Lisa Smith of Newport, Diane Michel of Maple Falls, Wash., and Debra Pappas of Chattanooga, Tenn.
