Haha, this reminds me of this chick Annie who I went to Uni with... we had a group project and she ended up in our group... she was Chinese, and we could never get her to do her part of the work properly, she'd never understand what we told her, then when we THOUGHT we had it clear, she'd come back with fucking something completely different. She stopped coming to classes on time and stuff so we complained to our lecturers about how she was letting down our group... they told us she was here on a study Visa and she had to keep up a certain attendance rate, otherwise she'd be outta the country. I think I saw her for one more semester after that. I'll never know for sure what happened, but I like to imagine she got deported.

GOLD....

and alison, you aren't getting my initial post, i don't agree with forcing our beliefs, ideas and concepts on other cultures, but when someone else comes into our culture, i feel that there language should not forced on us. I do like the idea that other cultures live here, i like how different cultures mesh, for example, the chinese culture is really starting to take hold of suburbia america, where most families now sit on the floor to eat.

i don't like the idea that people come here, and expect to be able to survive and prosper without learning the primary language.

i understand what you are saying.... you aren't
getting the fact that i'm still trying to point
out your hypocrisy

even based on your last post, it seems you would
like the ability to pick and choose what culture
traits are more acceptible than others.

its as if you are saying that culture traits are
ok as long as they are easily maleable with
little change to your already comfortable way
of living.

america has always been a place designated for
people of other countries to come without fear
of losing their original culture. even in the
height of immigration, we merely dedicated
certain portions of our country (cities, communities)
to cultures so that they wouldn't have to completely
'turn american' to live here.

but that was a century ago.... and now we are
dealing with the reality of the situation in
which we either 'mesh' or we overtake.

the real question is... do we continue to live
in a divided state, allowing other cultures to
continue to remain hassle free, or do we impose
our standards upong those cultures to adjust
and adapt to 'americanization'?

it seems that its acceptible to allow certain
culture traits to remain because they are cute
or trendy... but then deny others because we
ourselves aren't willing to 'mesh'.

i never said that i disagreed with you to the
point that our country should be so divided....
however i was just attempting to display the
obvious mess that has been made since the dawn
of 'america' and how we are trying to deal with
it.

today, those 'culture' communities in america
are more like theme parks...places we go to
experience another culture without having to
go abroad. but how insane is that really?

i understand the need to learn and accept the
common language of a land in order to survive
if you so choose to live there... but at the
rate of our immigration (both legal and illicit),
one has to find ways to compensate.

my post is already too long and i could write
more, but i just assume that this subject will
be dropped into the proverbial 'you think what
you want, i'll think what i want' trashcan...
so i'll leave it at that.
