Yeah, when one gets something better, the desire to use other stuff sorta dissapears. I uninstalled all the other programs I had right after I started playing with Maya.

PCMag review about Photoshop 6 (7.0 is out now):
Adobe Photoshop has long set the industry standard for image-editing products. If you need professional output options, this is the application for you.
Now in its sixth version, Photoshop goes well beyond tools for touching up digital photographs. It has an abundance of Web graphics features, including Adobe ImageReady, and vector drawing tools. Meanwhile, Photoshop's real strength?image editing?is more solid than ever, and a new interface has cleaned up some of the clutter. The Tool Options bar, for example, keeps common options available without being obtrusive. Yet this isn't a product for the uninitiated. If you want wizards for automatically removing red eye, turn to the program's $99 scaled-down sibling, Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop's effects are superb, and the latest version includes some fun additions, such as the Liquify command (for warping images). The outstanding library of brushes and brush textures makes painting fun and flexible. And support for up to 8,000 layers lets you color-code and group layers to organize complex projects.

PCMag review about Paint Shop Pro 7:
"Though Jasc Software's Paint Shop Pro isn't as ubiquitous as Adobe PhotoShop, it has amassed a large, devoted following?and for good reason. Jasc identified the enthusiast market years before Adobe did, and built a program with a complete set of image-editing tools and effects. But Paint Shop Pro's interface still may be intimidating for novices. Rather than providing automated quick fixes for such tasks as removing red eye and correcting color balance, Paint Shop Pro gives you plenty of control to do such procedures yourself. The special 10th Anniversary Edition includes Paint Shop Pro 7, Jasc's Media Center Plus image organizer, Animation Shop for creating animated images, and a bundle of effects and filters."

Well, from reading those reviews, I gather that they have the same features, only Photoshop is eaiser for 'beginners' to use... whereas PSP is for the more advanced users.
I guess, since you're looking to upgrade from MS Paint, then, yeah, I guess you'd prefer Photo "easy to use but hard to refine features" Shop over Paint "do what you want, I'll be your bitch" Shop Pro.
I'll stick to PSP.
*flips off Photoshop*

You can do good work with any program.
As long as you know what you're doing (in terms of the final outcome) you can use damn near any program.

Brando is right. Most of the time it is just what you are used to.
However, I have used many of the popular programs (including psp7 that he is in love with) and in my opinion, Photoshop kicks all their asses.
4 out of 5 dentists agree.
