assuming you are literally talking about lunch meat....
i like it to appear as if i cut it myself...
like with leftover thanksgiving sammiches...
i like it in various widths... chunks, etc
but i guess you are talking about getting meat
sliced at wallyworld... in which case i prefer
to get just the 'average' width slices....
not too thin, not too thick
and i'm not sure what 'shaved' is

shaved is really thinly sliced...which is how I prefer my lunch choice of meat. Arby's slices their roast beef pretty thin and I love those sandwiches. One more interesting fact about my sandwiches...after ever so wonderfully putting one together nice and neatly, I smoosh the sandwich down to make it thin. *shrugs shoulders*

personally, it depends on the type of bread.
if its a big hogie, you can't really smoosh it
unless it happens to be ultra soft.
if i'm making a sammich from regular sammich bread,
its aesthetically pleasing to smoosh...

personal preference i guess
but to answer my original question, i prefer the shaved lunch meat, it is not quite as easy to spread evenly over the entire sandwich, but it gives the appearance (if nothing else) of more meat. also, it gives a better texture to the sandwich in my opinion.
