Good answers. And for some reason CS at my uni means that you'll have to be able to make your own pc from basically .. transistors up.

well your uni sucks
now i know about gates and the logic behind the gates, but actually how it works is well above my understanding....have fun with that.

Well, it's the university of Twente, (www.utwente.nl), Which is dutch (duh).
And i don't have to build it, i just have to be able to work out timing on datapaths and in datatransmission over lines, i have to know how memory works, how to build it, how to build your own cpu..etc.. But that's one of the specializations later : embedded systems, so that's why we get extra hardware related subjects.
