is it an american thing to write checks for cheques??
and no, i'm not cunning enough to understand about cashing it. maybe cos there's a different system over here?? sheesh! and i used to work in a bank!

yes. checks and cheques are the same thing.
(i've always liked the spelling of 'cheques')
and gravy is correct in all that he would have
to do is write FOR DEPOSIT ONLY on the back
and viola... the money is deposited.
however, i find it odd that this is true.
i think it would depend on the type of account
you have the check deposited into.
i've had similar troubles depositing checks
written to me (from commissions) and having
them deposited. for some reason, the bank
(or teller) is gay.
