<center>Connor O'Reilly was a gutterborn construction of bullet wounds and arrogant sneers. The map to the real slums of Dublin could be found in the intersection of battle scars; some still bore the angry red taint of infection - his HMO covered peroxide and home-made remedies instead of glitzy medical plazas. This was not some piece of shit film by Tom Cruise; his brogue rumbled with the edge of a man born from nothing, who crawled through the minefield of opposing gangs with only the mind of a true brawler to protect him.
To know Connor was to know that he preferred whiskey straight, always swung with his left fist first (though he was right-handed), refused to acknowledge the bastardization of St. Patrick's day and never touched a dead body. The family crest was permanently smeared over the upper plane of his chest on the right side, like a harlot's trademark on the collar of a button-down, covering up the scar left behind by the bullet that attempted to take down two O'Reillys for the price of one. Connor had been a shy lad of fifteen the day he dug that bullet out of cousin's chest with his bare hands during that rough October evening.
He never went without a gun after that.
The Pilate of the underworld, he played the role of a bare-knuckle brawler with the melody of Danny Boy replacing the constant beating of his broken-down ticker, while pulling the strings from the safety of the wings.
He had fallen in and out of a number of beds over the years, but he was never able to keep a Queen of Hearts up his sleeve for very long. After yet another divorce and custody waiver he had decided that gambling wasn't his true calling. It was luck that brought Connor into this life - and it was luck that was the only thing keeping him alive.
But then one day a body fell onto a passing car and everything changed.
