I went to AGPNY today and met Valerie Tripp! She is honestly the nicest, sweetest author I've ever met! I was the third or fourth person in line, and she talked to each person for about five minutes.
I brought two Felicity books (and Felicity, of course), and I told Valerie I wanted to be a writer, either of hist. fiction or modern fiction. She told me that the great thing about writing historcial fiction is that you get to go to a place and research about the time. Then we talked a little about Colonial Williamsburg and how beautiful it is there...
And then she said to me, you know, right now I'm writing a book about Felicity's friend, Elizabeth. (And little alarms and buzzers went off in my head!!!) She told me that she gets to go back to Williamsburg and do more research and write about Felicity's time, and since Elizabeth is a shy person she has to bring her out of her shell a little. Then I asked, is there going to be an Elizabeth doll? Like we thought, she said yes, there will be. I was, of course, VERY EXCITED. I figure, if she told me, just a regular customer, it must be common knowledge at AG!
Then she told me that someday, I'll be sitting at a book signing of my own books, and that when I'm a published author I'll have to send her one of the pics of us. How sweet! (I'll try to post pics later--I haven't downloaded any yet.)
When I was in line, I got many compliments on my Felicity's hair (I've managed to keep her 1998 head in pretty good condition ) and I met a lady who'd just gotten married, and was VERY obsessed with AG. My mom asked her if she was on this message board, but she wasn't. We exchanged emails, so I think I'll have to send her here. She and her mother were surprised at how heavy Felicity was (and my mom and I were surprised at how light her Samantha was!), which must have just been a pre-mattel/mattel difference.
Also, now they have MANY Christmas CD's for sale--by themselves, too, not just in the 3-pack. They must still be manufacturing the old ones for the holidays even though they don't include Kit and Kaya (who wouldn't even celebrate Christmas).
I'm probably going to the library tomorrow where Valerie will be speaking about her experiences as an author--she's just so nice, I have to see her again! And I know I'll be one of the first to buy Elizabeth...although I think there will be many other "firsts" here on this board!
