Can anyone clear up for me what a Pre Mattel Felicity is supposed to have as far as tags on body, tags on clothes, and signature marks?
I have seen listings on ebay for supposed pre mattel Lissie's with no body tag, one with a Made in China dress tag, and made in West Germany body tag, seen them with different signature marks and someone even has a supposed pre Mattel Samantha with parchment paper colored cloth body under her dress.
What am I looking for? What is the difference between the pre Mattel made in China and made in Germany dolls?
The only thing I know is that the face shape is different and that the eyelashes are supposed to be thinner, nicer, more like the color of her hair.

Molly, Sam, and Kirstens made before 1991 DO have a white body. That is a very real way to determine when a doll was made. My 1991 Felicity has no body tag. Her dress is tagged "Made in West Germany 1986." I don't know about the later Felicitys, but I would assume that all the very early ones would be very similar to mine. Her neck signature is fairly small in all capital letters. Mine has the "right ear mark" but I think that doesn't actally mean anything. Her hair is very bright red, and could only be called brown without the lights on. You're right about the soft brown eyelashes.
Hope that helps a bit!

I own a pre-Mattel doll that was made in China (according to the tag in her dress). She has no body tags, but darker hair and brighter eyes than the German dolls. I *think* the best way to tell between pre-Mattel and Mattel dolls are the eyelashes (red vs. black), but there are others here who could tell you for certain.

So the white bodied Samantha is legit. Ok.
Now, there is a Lissie on Ebay right now that is supposed to be circa 1986 and the seller is claiming it has the white body.
But that doesn't fit in with the time period Felicity was introduced as a new character.......
Sorry. I am just trying to keep all of my time periods straight with this one.

My German Felicity was bought in 1991 and her dress is tagged "Made in West Germany for Pleasant Company 1986." Compared to a Pre-Mattel China-made doll (I had both for a while), German Felicity's eyes are more muted green, hair is bright red, coloring is not so white. My German Felicity has no body tag and she does have the ear mark, but I don't consider that it means anything since Mattel dolls sometimes have it too.
The early German dolls before Felicity debuted (Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly) had white cloth bodies. Both my Sam and my Kirsten have that. Felicity was never made with a white body, so someone must have switched her head. Her necklines are too low to wear with a white body.
If you want some close-ups of German Felicity's face/hair check out my "AG Girls" album in my signature. There are two pictures that are close-up and you can maximize them to see the detail of her eyes and hair. I've found the easist way to tell if a Felicity doll is German made is to look at her eyes, but you need a good close-up non-fuzzy picture of her face to do so. I pretty much ignore the dress tag on auctions since a dress is easily changed.

Thank you horsemom. I will have her look at the pics!

My pre-Mattel Felicity was purchased the year she was issued and has a body tag dated 1986 west germany. I bought her the month she appeared in the catalog and know she was one of the first made because I worked for the catalog printer and saw the catalog about 3 weeks before the general public.
I can explain this at greater length than I am here if you wish.

Do you have any pics of your Felicity?
There just are not good guidelines for this type of thing on either one of the collectible sites that I found links to here on the board.
I've seen information in great detail about the differences in Felicity's toy doll, but not the differences in the Felicity herself. That is why I am asking so many questions here on the board!
Thank you all for being patient with me and answering them!

I will try to put some pictures in my Imagestation album tonight but she is dressed and it is a pain in the backside to undress her when the kiddos are up.
Since AG dolls were never meant to be collectable AG never even kept track of all of the different tags, bodies and the like, so there really isn't a good resource.
I just know alot about the dolls because I have been collecting for so long and remember when and under which circumstance each of my dolls were purchased.
