You haven't supplied enough information for an exact answer.
It depends on the load in the "bonus room" above the garage.
A 12 KW unit will draw 50 amps.

PS. Just wondering, are you an electrical contractor?

Yes Dynamite is an EC He asked me this yesterday and I suggested he come to this board as it is Canadian.
Just lights and a few convenience receptacles i sure he said.I was a bit busy to look up all the rules as i was thinking there would be some derating involved.
I could really only find how many circuit panel was required for electric heat. Just remembered now to check the response
Yes I am an EC and Bonus Room will only have general lights and plugs like Electric Guy mentioned. Bonus Room is approx 15' x 30' and garage is 30' x 30'
There is still not enough information. Is the garage attached to a residence? Then Use 8-200(1)(a)(i) and (ii) to calculate the basic load, then use 8-200(1)(a)(iii) to calculate what you can use for heat. If the garage is NOT attached to a residence, then use Table 14.
Remember to use 62-116(3)OR(4) to calculate your demand factors and do Not use 62-116(2).
