Anybody familiar withe the Phoenix Arizona Music Scene?

Anyone here actually from the area? Are there more than 3 bars or clubs for bands to play at there? I am curious, I am considering a move to the area. I want to be able to go to L.A. frequently without living in California and Phoenix sure looks good...

Last time i was there, which was more than 5 years ago it was a big metal scence. Not sure what it is like now. I have relatives out there that are into the scene that might be able to let me know.
