I was listening to da chuch's great drum solo a few days ago and I thought "man, that guy is well good! I'd like to be able to record a solo and try and make it even a quarter as good as his". Well that's a hard task for me, I'm not a soloist and it isn't as good as his by a looooong shot. I don't have anything like his chops but at least he's inspired me to woodshed more. Anyway, here's my solo. It sort of goes in and out of tempo [img]smile.gif[/img] Excuse the floor tom sound, I now realise the mic needs replacing.

bro, watcha talkin bout? sounded great! i like the way you had a theme going and took off on that. i'm glad it inspired somebody cuz hearing it after all these years makes me squeamish. i guess it was good for something! [img]smile.gif[/img]

Bro! I like the way you're using Weck's old Solo theory. utilizing Straight 16 note phrasing and triplet divided 8.'s into a tasful. And keeping that clave pattern will definitely make the crowd plead --- It's all about recognition and identity.
your technical abilities let us know that you're worth more than two minutes of soloing.
A teacher of mine taught me most challenging thing ever; Keep a five minute long solo attractive, addictive and experiencing at the same time.
You got the Gadd things knocked down! Maybe it's time to seek new challenges, you talked alot about Erib Tribett whom's a big drummer for me too, maybe show us how he influenced you!.
And a side-note. Try to stay off the swing pattern in the beginnning, at least for me. it does not belong in the context you're showing.
A teacher of mine once told me; " you need to show the audience some of your problems, make them amazed about the situation and then amaze THEM with the solution to it!"
Your solo ideas is great, but think about the compsosition! your technique is well beyond mine, but still. it's the statement that gets into the ones your telling it to, showing to many dimensions makes them confused, and instead of showing them pictures you're showing them different kinds of colours.
