I just ordered my first American Girl ever, AGoT 23, Joanie!
I remember being so crushed as a kid when I knew I couldn't have an American Girl of my very own. The catalogues tortured me, but I loved looking at the dolls anyway. I never imagined that one day I would have one! She'll be my first AG ever! I'm so excited. I was worried I'd be torn with guilt or something, but I'm not, even though I don't think I've ever spent soooo much money on myself at one time in my life.
Since I've never gotten one of these dolls before, I don't know what to look for. I should probably inspect her for flaws and stuff - what are things that I need to be aware of?
Also, I really want to make the day she comes even more special. Any ideas for how I can celebrate her arrival (by myself)? I'm planning on taking some pictures.
This is such a happy thing for me, and I don't think that I would have done it for myself without you guys letting me know it was okay to play dolls. Thank you all!

Congrats on your first AG! I look forward to seeing the pics!

Congrats! How exciting! When she arrives you can take pictures opening the box. Have someone take a photo of you when you first see her! Those are always fun. Show her around your house, your neighborhood. Introduce her to any other pets, dolls or stuffed animals that live with you.

Congrats on getting your first AG!! How exciting. I hope you really like her!

How exciting!! It sounds like you've waited a long time for this purchase. I'm very happy for you and know that the anticipation of her arriving is going to be absolutely torturous. Yes, take pictures and share with the board!!! I think you've made a great choice for your first AG!! Congratulations!!

Congrats!
Well, you can check for extremely loose limbs, any scratches on head or limbs, wig not sewn on all the way, eyes have a hard time opening and closing, a grayish complexion or bad face coloring, and just anything esle that bothers you..Hopefully none of these things will happen though.
How exciting to get your very first AG! You will NOT regret it! You may regret all the money you'll probably spend on more doll stuff as you get hooked and your addiction grows, but I believe there's some sort of 12-step program in the works...

I was lucky to have an American Girl of my own, Molly, as a child. (thanks Momma and Daddy!) But a year later, Felicity was released and I wanted her so bad, but I didn't ever ask for her, knowing that with the price tag I was lucky to have an AG at all! Not to mention that was also the year I got my first horse, and "expensive hobby" doesn't begin to cover the equestrian world, lol, especially when you're showing or training to show, like I was back then.
So I loved my Molly very much and drooled over Felicity in the catalouges until I got older and they stopped coming. In November, out of the blue, an American Girl catalouge showed up at my house. I couldn't take my eyes off of it! So I decided to collect. And when I went online and saw Felicity was still available, I skimped and saved until I could afford her. And when I opened the box...it was like magic. After thirteen years, I finally had her!
Now I've got five AGs and plan to at least get all the Historicals. The first time or two it seems like alot of money but then when you see the quality and how much enjoyment you get from the dolls, it doesn't seem like much at all...even if it does take awhile to save up.

Congrats!!! Glad that this board was "helpful"! (or dangerous, depending on how you look at it!) I am sure you will just love Joanie. Be sure to take lots of pictures and as someone else said, have someone with you when she arrives to take pics of you and your new girl together! Have a great time!
