It's that time of year again. It's been a little warmer lately, due to daylight savings time, it's gonna be light out little later too. People's whole attitudes often get a little better once it's a little warmer and it's more of an option to get outside instead of being cooped up indoors. Kids checking their bikes out to make sure they are good to go for spring. Trying on last years shorts, checking your sandles and flip flops to see if you need to think about some new ones. Old park stickers being removed from cars and new ones for 2005 being put in their mplace. Yes, this can only mean one thing. It's time for the changing of the seasons. Time for college hoops to segue into baseball season. Though there was a game last night (Yanks crushed the red sox) today is openeing day around the major leagues, and it's also the national championship in college hoops (UNC vs Illinois at around 9:20). As we say goodbye to one sports season another begins. Many around here will head downtown for the parade and the game. (not going this year, but I'll probably catch part of the parade and game on tv). A little later my Cubbies play at 5:00. The crack of the bat, the turning of the double play, the home runs hit into the stands, hot dogs, pretzels, cool (and slightly overpriced) all back for another season. Nothing beats an afternoon baseball game (DAY GAMES RULE). Night games are good too, but there is something very right about sitting in the stands with your shades on an a warm spring or summer afternoon, just relaxing and soaking it all in. I'm sure there will be sellouts all around the league and there will be plenty watching on ntv as well. We move outside from the hardwood to the green green grass of the ballparks. Yes, the seasons are a changin again. Winters chill is leaving a few reminders, but the spring days are taking over and I for one am ready for the change to be complete. Time for another long baseball season full of surprises and great moments to begin. So let's play ball!
C'mon, you didnt really think this was just about the weather. Or did you?
