I had the worst luck with ebay dolls and i'm starting to think that Ag is the only way to go. I still haven't received a refund promised to me on April 3rd for a doll that the seller claims was damaged by the post office. Another doll was described as being in good condition and wearing a cute dress. What i got was a naked doll with a red mark on her face. When i tried to clean it her head came off. I got the head back on but the mark is permanent.
Meanwhile, i got a beautiful Felicity from AG for my returned outfits. So for now on rather than pay 60 or 70 for a beat up doll i'll only buy brand new. I know many people have good luck with ebay but i can't seem to find a decent doll or even an honest seller. The odd thing is that i buy other stuff and i've never had a problem. What is it about AG sellers? Is it just me or are other people finding dishonest AG sellers too?

I think when it comes to used toys, there are more chances of problems. Most of my early Ebay purchases were crystals/gemstones - never had a problem! But with buying used toys, there are ALWAYS something that wasn't mentioned! Perfect stain free Molly, has an obviious yellow stain on her calf. There's a dent or gauge ro scrape. It's just that so many people selling used things are just clearing out ther closet, and often don't have or care about professionalism or commitment to business ethics.

I'm sorry about your problems, and I know exactly what you mean. There was the incident with the AGOT described as excellent condition 'like new' that ended up coming with stains all over, wads of hair cut out, no lip color, like someone took it off. And when I wrote the seller about it, she accused me of damaging the doll to get a refund. Blimey, that was a mess, but short lived. I convinced her I would never damage a collectible, and she sort of apologized and gae me a full refund. Then there was balding silver eyed Kirsten, but I got a partial refund on her. I said I wouldn't get any eBay used dolls, but I have gotten more with no troubles. I guess it is a matter of fortune. I hope you get your refund!

The first seller hasn't responded to my emails and a month is certainly enough time to get a letter in the mail. I got a email from the 2nd asking why i haven't left + feedback. I just sent her an email explaining that i couldn't leave + since the dress was missing and she had red marks on her face.

Good greif. I'm sorry, but what a moron! Sometimes you just wonder about sellers, you know?

I am sorry you have gone through that. The only doll I did have problems getting a keeper on ebay was a Kit doll. I am not sure if the plastic on the face was softer then the other dolls or not. It seems their face colors rub off easily.
One way to be a bit more safe is to ask for a close up of the doll before you bid on it. Sellers take pictures of the dolls from a distance so you can't see the problems. Buying with paypay also helps. If the description and the pictures is not as the doll arrives you can file a not as described complaint against the seller. That way paypal takes the money back from the seller. If you win the complaint then paypal credits you the amount you paid.

Wow, those were some bad sellers. I've been lucky with dolls so far, but I ordered Felicity's old Theater Kit through an online used book seller fronted by a major-named site. It was described as being in typical used condition, but when it arrived only the Director's Guide was included! Fortunately, it was a relatively small purchase to be burned on. Otherwise, there's just a small mistake with a missing piece from a Retired dress I paid a lot for, but I'm working on resolbing that. It's been over a week, but I hope the seller will get back to me soon. Fortunately, it seems that I can at least still get a replacement part from AG. I've made a lot of ebay and similar purchases, and it is unfortunately a risk you take. I would totally try to nail the sellers for their dishonesty, though, since they're a big purchase.
After seeing the one or two sellers on ebay that consistently double the prices of items that they don't even say are PM or Retired, I have gotten a little annoyed. I'll bet that there are people who don't even realize that they're being ripped off because they think that they'll automatically get a good deal by going on ebay. I have been making sure that my only ebay purchases are retired or PM items. I think you're right that it's better to get things straight from the company. (Except all their retirements have been really frustrating lately!!!) That way, you'll be assured of good customer service. But, if you see a good deal on a doll on ebay, just ask a whole lot of questions. I've passed up some awesome deals because the single grainy picture of the doll provided didn't give me enough confidence in what the doll actually looked like. Usually, the people who describe things really well and don't seem like they're trying to rip people off in any of their other auctions are reliable.

Oh, I did have a problem getting severely ripped off for a trumpet once, though. Tuning slides supposedly "moved freely" - when I got it, they were all frozen... Seller must have propped the case open for pictures, because the hinges were broken, turning a beautiful vintage case into a POJunk, as was the pathetic excuse for a mouthpiece they included.
A lesson learned from that:
Don't try to fix the problem. Like, because you tried to clean the doll, it's "state has been altered," or some such nonsense. So, just don't even bother trying to remedy the situation and complain right away if something has been that poorly misrepresented.

I only buy dolls direct from AG. I have had good luck with e-Bay for many things and buy a lot of crystal jewelry on e-Bay as well as some AG accessories and outfits, but the dolls go for so much $$$ on e-Bay that I just usually buy from AG. I would rather spend $20 more and get a new doll, but I don't have a strong desire to get a PM or WB doll that I couldn't get directly from AG.

I have come to the same conclusion after the last 2 dolls I bought smelled like smoke! Yuk! Now I have to clean them up myself and I don't weant to dress them until I do.
So now I'm only buying from AG. I have had good luck with retired outfits though.
