My daughter has 2 AG dolls from years ago. One (at one time <G>) was Samantha, the other is Molly.
It has come to my attention that the doll we thought was Samantha is actually not - because this doll has blue eyes and not brown. However, this dolls hair seems to be in the "Samantha" style - not Molly. The clothing and books we have with the doll are all Samantha stuff. I guess it is possible that the real Samantha was accidently switched with another girls Molly during playtime years ago.
Do ALL Samantha dolls have brown eyes?
Could someone please take a look at these pictures and help me?
These 4 pictures are of the doll I thought was Samantha:

Definitely an american girl of today doll! Hope this helps. Is your daughter upset that her doll got switched? Can you find the person who has the doll?
-
Wow, thanks for the quick reply.
Can you elaborate on how you identified it as an American Girl of Today doll?
No, my daughter isn't particularly upset that it got switched (well, she doesn't even know about it yet ... lol ) - but the last time she played with the doll was years ago - that's why we are just finding out. I'm sure the other girl is long gone by now.
Could you do me another favor and take a look at these pictures - and tell me if this is or is not a Molly doll? I'm 100% certain it is - because we bought it at AGP in Chicago - but you never know! Thanks again for your help!

Also, can you tell me when the American Girl of Today dolls started? The original "real" Samantha doll was purchased for her in 1997/98 if I remember correctly. Where the "Today" dolls around then?
Thanks!

Yes, I think the Today dolls were around then. That looks like a Molly to me, but Icould be wrong. (I'm pretty new to the doll id stuff.)

The first doll is an Am. Girl of today and the second is Molly.
The first is AGOT because of the blue eyes and her hair, while long and has bangs like Samantha's, is straight. I'm not sure what year the AGOT were introduced, but I believe it was 1995.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for all of the information! I really appreciate it.
Now that my daughter has gotten out of bed - here is the "rest of the story"...
"Oh yeah, remember we got one of those that match my hair and eyes?"
"You mean you have 3 dolls and not 2?"
"Yeah, Molly, Samantha, and the Today doll"
"Well, where is Samantha?"
"I don't know.."

That's very funny! Now to find that Samantha . . . .

I identified the first doll as being a today doll by the hair. It is cut straight across in the back and flipped under. Also, she has very blue eyes and Samantha always has brown eyes. I can tell the second doll is definitely Molly because even though her hair is in braids, it has the shorter hairs in the back to make it neater. AGOT dolls started in 1995 so it is possible that in 1998 you bought an AGOT. Hope this helps!

I'm quite certain that the AGoT dolls were introduced in 1994 (Fall, I think), as we bought one of the first ones for my daughter's 11th birthday in February of 1995. Does someone have a summer or fall catalogue from 1994 that they could check for this?
